Last winter, my little brother said he wanted to be baptized and our Pastor promised it would happen as soon as the weather warmed. Well, with all that has been happening this summer, Pastor hadn’t gotten around to it. Now little brother is 64 years old and has Fragile X Syndrome, so keeping promises to him is important.
Yesterday, Pastor Art called me and said they would be baptizing Mike at Men’s Group this evening and I could drop him off at North Park, about 15 miles away. Well, this afternoon, Pastor Art called me back. His wife, and our elders’ wives wanted to be there and make an impromptu church picnic of the event. So Art texted all the members and threw it open to whoever wished to come.
Pastor Art called KFC an hour ahead of time to place an order for five buckets of chicken, slaw, beans, biscuits…and paper plates, napkins, and utensils. Well, KFC got the order wrong and as we were unpacking things we discovered there were no plates, napkins, or utensils. We could use the lids from the slaw and the beans and the bucket lids as plates (with spouses sharing a “plate.”) but slaw and beans without forks is messy.
I went back to my car and dug through the console. I came up with two forks and five knives. Carrying them back, I said to Art, “I have two forks and five knives, but what are these among so many?” ( C’mon…you knew I had to say it!)
He laughed and said, “I’m going to pray and thank God for what he has given us, and we shall see.”
After he prayed, several others went back to their cars and dug through their consoles. After we finished eating, we had one spoon and two knives left over. (Also a bucket and a half of chicken, five bowls of beans and a bowl of slaw)
